Do rim protectors work on low-profile tires?
Does AlloyGator's UK page mention them?
AlloyGator's UK suitability page doesn't use the words low-profile. It says some wheel and tire combinations suit the product better than others, and that every set includes a suitability gauge to use before you try to fit it.
What does the French AlloyGator page say?
On 19-inch wheels, AlloyGator's French site says low-profile tires are common and fitting is more delicate, though they say the fit can still be done. They don't recommend fitting it yourself on a low-profile tire marked 35 or 40, because the tire is hard to break away from the rim without a machine.
Does Rimblades mention a low-profile tire?
The UK Rimblades FAQ doesn't mention low-profile tires. The US page mentions them only as a reason to skip a guide-rail car wash, and it doesn't say whether the strip works on that tire.
The US page says to let the strip cure for at least 3 days. It then says a guide-rail car wash may damage the protector, and advises against that wash if you have low-profile tires.
Should the strip touch the tire?
Rimblades says to fit the strip so it doesn't touch the tire. They say flex in the tire, if the strip is touching, can push the strip and weaken the bond.
That answer is about contact with the tire. It doesn't say whether a low-profile tire changes the fit.
The 35 or 40 in a size such as 245/40R18 is the aspect ratio, not the wheel diameter. Find your wheel size reads the other number. How to install a rim protector · Wheel and rim words · Guides
