Do rim protectors affect a warranty?

Updated

A product warranty on a rim protector is not the same paper as a tire warranty, and it is not the same paper as the warranty on the car. AlloyGator and Rimblades each publish a warranty for their own accessory. A truck-tire document from Michelin does not name a rim protector. Owners on Tesla Motors Club describe service centers that installed the rings and service centers that would not. We haven't asked a dealer to rule on a claim, and we haven't filed one.

What does AlloyGator warrant on the product?

AlloyGator's UK warranty page, read Oct 21, 2026, covers accessory products for 12 months. If the product breaks down from faulty manufacture or in normal use, they say labour, when it is required, and new or replacement parts are free.

That page also says what the 12 months do not cover. They exclude inappropriate use, incorrect operation, and a fault that comes from incorrect fitting. The list names impact damage, damage from a hazardous liquid, exposure to extreme heat or cold, other damage they describe as acts of God, incorrect fitment, and vandalism. Buying their 5 Star Fitting Service extends that warranty to 2 years. The extension is still a warranty on their accessory.

How they say to seat the ring is a separate page. How to install a rim protector.

What does Rimblades warrant?

Rimblades' warranty policy, read Oct 21, 2026, says the policy does not affect your statutory consumer rights. They warrant defective workmanship in manufacturing, at their cost. They do not warrant a failure that comes from misuse.

The misuse list on that policy names incorrect installation, poor maintenance, abuse or neglect, use for something other than the intended purpose, and an alteration unless they permit it in writing. They also say the policy does not cover general wear and tear, or damage from a wheel collision. Material fatigue or corrosion after extended use is not covered. The warranty is non-transferable. It belongs to the original purchaser, and they ask for proof of purchase. A replacement they do cover runs only for the time left on the original period. Competition or racetrack use is not covered. Loss of use is not covered, and labour charges are not covered.

They also describe a separate offer for a stick-on protector that fails in the first 14 days after purchase because it was fitted incorrectly. They say they will replace it for a nominal cost of £9.99. That offer is only for products bought from Rimblades Limited direct, not from a third party, and they ask for proof and photos. They say that if their instructions are not followed, any warranty they have given or implied may be invalidated. The £9.99 figure is theirs. It is not a price on Amazon, and it is not a fee we charged.

Taking the strip off, including when a lease is ending, is in how to remove a rim protector.

Does a tire warranty name a rim protector?

Michelin's truck tire limited warranty, read Oct 21, 2026, excludes a tire that is unserviceable because of a road hazard, incorrect mounting, imbalance, an improper repair, an accident, chemical corrosion, tire alteration, or vandalism. That document does not name a rim protector.

The alteration section names truing a tire, adding balancing or sealant liquids, and using a petroleum-distillate dressing. It does not say a rim protector is one of those alterations. The file is a warranty for truck tires, not a passenger-car warranty and not a warranty on the vehicle. Inflation after a ring is seated is in do rim protectors affect tire pressure or balance?

What did owners report about a vehicle warranty?

On Tesla Motors Club, read Oct 21, 2026, owners did not report one service-center rule. B-Chicago wrote on July 8, 2013 that a center said it would no longer install AlloyGators. Another owner wrote that a Fremont center had installed them.

B-Chicago's post says the center would no longer install AlloyGators, and that Tesla Corp had stopped aftermarket installations in the previous couple of weeks. Another poster wrote that a local center was advising against rim guards, even if someone else had installed them, over putting anything between the rim and the tire, and asked about the Tesla warranty. A reply said there should not be a problem, because the Fremont center had installed them. A separate post says a Norristown, Pennsylvania center installed them before delivery on 21 inch wheels. A later post says a center would not install Alloygators during a warranty visit, and called them a non-Tesla accessory that cannot be warranted. A reply says the Atlanta center would install them and stocked them.

Those reports do not add up to one Tesla rule, and they are not a test we ran. A lease-end wear list is a different document. Check for wheel damage before you return a leased car. A state inspection is different too. Do rim protectors pass a vehicle inspection?
