Do rim protectors fit an EV that isn't a Tesla?
Factory inch numbers for a Model Y, an Ioniq 5, and a Mustang Mach-E are already listed in rim protectors by car. This page is the other question: a heavy electric car, and a wheel the maker calls aerodynamic. A Tesla wheel name is a different page, rim protectors for a Model Y or Model 3.
What weight does AlloyGator name?
As of Oct 20, 2026, AlloyGator's UK suitability page says they don't recommend the rings on a vehicle over 2,500 kg. That includes a lighter vehicle once people and luggage push the total over 2,500 kg.
They say that weight puts more pressure on the wheel and the tire, and that the profile could move over time. They accept no liability for movement, or for damage, when the vehicle weighs more than 2,500 kg. If you don't know the weight, they point you to one of their fitters. Their French FAQ uses the same 2,500 kg figure as a laden weight, including passengers and luggage. It says that recommendation is more conservative than a TÜV approval they describe as covering up to 3.5 tonnes. The UK page is the one that states the no-liability line in the words above.
That limit is about the vehicle, not about the inch size of the wheel. A lighter car on a 20 inch wheel and a heavier car on a 19 inch wheel are not the same check. The alloy-wheel page already notes the 2,500 kg line. The masses below are what one car maker prints beside it.
What does Hyundai publish for an Ioniq 5?
Hyundai's Australian MY24 IONIQ 5 specification guide lists tare mass at 1,910 kg, 2,015 kg, and 2,125 kg. Gross vehicle mass on those rows is 2,370 kg, 2,450 kg, and 2,560 kg.
The 1,910 kg tare and the 2,370 kg gross mass are the standard-range rear-wheel-drive row. The 2,015 kg tare and the 2,450 kg gross mass are extended-range rear-wheel drive. The 2,125 kg tare and the 2,560 kg gross mass are extended-range all-wheel drive. Every tare figure in that table sits under 2,500 kg. The all-wheel-drive gross mass sits over it. AlloyGator's line is the loaded weight, people and luggage included, not the name of a trim. This table is the Australian guide. It is not a US window sticker.
Ford's US help page, read the same day, defines curb weight as the vehicle with a full tank and standard equipment, without passengers, cargo, or options. It says curb weight is often in dealer sourcebooks, and that some models and some years are not published. It says the actual weight comes from a scale. Gross vehicle weight rating is on the safety certification label, and payload may be on the tire label in the driver's door. The subtraction example on that page is a sample. It is not a Mustang Mach-E weight. Your door label is the label for your car.
What is the aero wheel on that page?
The same Hyundai guide calls the wheels an alloy of aerodynamic design. The base car lists a 19 x 7.5J aero wheel. Dynamiq and Epiq list a 20 x 8.5J aero wheel.
That wording describes the wheel Hyundai supplies. It is not a clip-on cover, and it is not a lip protector. A cover over the face of a wheel is a different part. Tesla's steps for taking a wheel cover off, so you can reach the lug nuts, are on rim protector or a full wheel cover. Those steps are for a Model 3 cover. They don't say an Ioniq 5 aero wheel comes off the same way.
The inch number on your tire is still the number to match if you are shopping a lip piece. Twenty inch wheels, including these, are in do rim protectors fit 20 to 22 inch wheels?.
What did Mach-E owners write?
On Nov 2, 2021, jgillmer asked on MachEforum whether a listing would be compatible with a Mach-E GT rim. Lord Polymath replied the same day that they seriously doubt anything you stick on the rims will protect them from curb rash.
On May 29, 2022, Motomax wrote that a before-and-after picture looked as if it was meant to cover curb rash, and asked whether a sticker would hold up to a curb. Those notes are what two owners wrote. They don't name a measured weight, and they are not a fit test we ran. A listing that names a Mach-E wheel is still that listing's wording. Confirm it on the product page, and read the loaded weight against the 2,500 kg line if the piece is an AlloyGator.
